KB0005 : How do I install TimeSource on my network?

Solution:

Please use the following TimeSource Network installation instructions. IMPORTANT!!! (It is recommended you follow the instructions below and NOT install the TimeSource application on your server)

1. Install TimeSource on the workstation (the pc you want to use).
2. Start TimeSource on the workstation.
3. Click "OK" in the "Installation Incomplete" window, when asked to locate the TSDataV7.mdb database file.
4. In the "Select Main Data" window, left click once on the default TSDataV7.mdb file, highlighting the file, and then click on "Open".
5. Enter your registration code in the "Enable Options" window.
6. If you have additional option codes, please enter them now.
7. Exit the TimeSource software.
8. Open a Windows Explorer window and create a new folder on the server. The TimeSource TSDataV7.mdb database file will eventually be moved from the workstation to the newly created folder on the server. If the server does not appear in the Explorer window's list of folders, then you must map a network drive to the server first.
9. Locate the TSDataV7.mdb database file on the workstation (in a typical install it would be located on the following path C:\Program Files\TsourceV7\TSDataV7.mdb) and copy the file to the newly created folder on the server. Rename the local copy of TSDataV7.mdb to TSDataV7old.mdb on the workstation.
10. Start the TimeSource software. When asked to locate the TSDataV7.mdb database file click "OK" in the "Installation Incomplete" window. If the TimeSource "Welcome" screen with the Sun logo appears, exit the software, and rename the local copy of TSDataV7.mdb on the workstation (see above step 9).
11. In the "Select Main Data" window, navigate to the TSDataV7.mdb database file located on the server, and open the file. The installation is now complete for this computer. Use step 12 through 20 if you have a multi-user license.
12. Install the TimeSource software on the next workstation.
13. Open a Windows Explorer window and locate the TCDataV7.mdb file on the workstation. In a typical install it would be located on the following path C:\Program Files\TsourceV7\TCDataV7.mdb.
14. Rename the TCDataV7.mdb file to TCDataV7old.mdb.
15. Start the TimeSource software on the workstation.
16. When asked to locate the TSDataV7.mdb database file click "OK" in the "Installation Incomplete" window.
17. In the "Select Main Data" window, navigate to, and open, the TSDataV7.mdb file located on the server by clicking once on the file name to highlight it and then select "Open".
18. Enter your registration code in the "Enable Options" window.
19. If you have additional option codes please enter them now. This installation is complete.
20. Repeat steps 12 through 19 for each additional TimeSource installation.

Additional Installation Information

How to Map a Network Drive:
Please use the following instructions to map a network drive from the workstation to the server.

1. Double click on the "My Computer" icon on your desktop.
2. From the Menu bar in the "My Computer" window select "Tools" and then "Map Network Drive."
3. The "Drive" letter in the "Map Network Drive" window defaults to the first letter not already mapped. If you wish to choose another letter, select the drop down arrow and choose from the available letters.
4. The "Folder" is blank. Enter in the path to your server or select the drop down arrow and choose one of the available selections. If you enter the path, use the following format: "\\server\share" where server is the name of the server on the network, and share is a particular folder. Another way to set the folder path is to choose the "Browse" button and then navigate to the correct folder in the "Browse For Folder" window.
5. Check the "Reconnect at Logon" check box and then choose "Finish."

How to enter Additional Option codes

Please use the following instructions to enter Additional Option codes.

1. Start the TimeSource Software.
2. From the "Menu" bar choose "File" and then "Install Module".
3. Enter the option code for the add-on module you purchased into the "Enable Options" window, and press"OK."
4. You should receive a message stating the option was entered successfully
5. Close the "Enable Options" window.
6. Repeat steps 2 through 5 until all of your additonal option codes have been entered.

How to Open a Windows Explorer window

Please use the following instructions to open a Window Explore window.

1. Place the mouse pointer on "Start" in the "Task Bar" and right click once.
2. In the pop up window, the second option down should be "Explore". Left click once on
   "Explore."

How to Rename a file

Plese use the following instructions to rename a file.

1. Place the Mouse pointer over the file you need to rename and right click once.
2. From the menu choose "Rename."
3. Type in the new file name and press "Enter."
