Installing TimeVue on a Network

KB0064: Installing TimeVue on a Network

Solution:

  1. Install TimeVue on a workstation and start TimeVue.
  2. Click “OK” in the “Installation Incomplete” window, when asked to locate the Datastorage.tvd database file.
  3. In the “Browse to database fileā€¦” window, left click once on the default Datastorage.tvd file, highlighting the file, and then click on “Open”.
  4. Enter your registration code in the “Enable Options” window.
  5. Select the Start Button on the Welcome Screen. If you have additional option codes, enter these code by selecting the Install Modules Icon in the TimeVue management screen.
  6. Exit TimeVue.
  7. Open Windows Explorer and create a new folder on the server. The TimeVue Datastorage.tvd database file will eventually be moved from the workstation to the newly created folder on the server. If the server does not appear in the Explorer window’s list of folders, then you must map a network drive to the server first.
  8. Locate the Datastorage.tvd database file on the workstation. For a typical installation, it would be located in the following path: C:\Program Files\Icon Time Systems\TimeVue. Copy the file to the newly created folder on the server. Rename the local, workstation copy of Datastorage.tvd to Datastorageold.tvd.
  9. Start the TimeVue software. When asked to locate the Datastorage.tvd database file, click “OK” in the “Installation Incomplete” window.
  10. In the ” Browse to database file” window, navigate to the Datastorage.tvd database file located on the server and open the file. The installation is now complete for this computer. Use step 11 through 18 if you have a multi-user license.
  11. Install the TimeVue software on the next workstation.
  12. Open Windows Explorer and locate the Datastorage.tvd file on the workstation. In a typical install it would be located in the following path: C:\Program Files\ Icon Time Systems\TimeVue.
  13. Make sure TimeVue is closed. Rename the Datastorage.tvd file to Datastorageold.tvd.
  14. Start the TimeVue software on the workstation again.
  15. When asked to locate the Datastorage.tvd database file, click “OK” in the “Installation Incomplete” window.
  16. In the ” Browse to database file” window, browse to, and open, the Datastorage.tvd file located on the server by clicking once on the file name to highlight it and then select “Open”.
